The Importance of Voting in Municipal Elections

There are just a few days left until the election on Nov. 2nd.

Municipal elections are notoriously low turnout and a few votes (or even one) can decide an election with significant implications for the direction our community heads. Let's buck that trend and show a strong turnout.

Here's why I think it's so important:

Serving on City Council or School Board is not an easy task and requires willingness to listen and learn.

It requires humility and being able to admit when you might have been wrong or that you might need to change your mind.

It requires a willingness to do the work to prepare and make difficult decisions in the face of uncertainty and at times conflicting input from residents.

It requires people who are willing to recognize that their own life experiences may be different from others and who can hold empathy for others and space for other views.

And while 'politics' often gets a bad rap, politics impacts each of our lives every day. The way Dover votes on Tuesday will impact the direction our community heads in two important years where we work to learn the lessons of a really challenging 18+ months. This is a window we have to build the future we want for our community.

The decisions that are made at the polls on Tuesday will decide who gets to be the public voice of our community.

I want those voices to be voices of calm and collaboration.

I want those voices to be welcoming to all.

I want those voices to show kindness and humility.

Please encourage every eligible voter to head to the polls to make their voice heard. I encourage folks look through the candidate info posted on the City website and on Foster's as well. And please don't hesitate to reach out here or via email (lindseyfordover@gmail.com) or phone (603-534-2119) if you have any questions.

And make your plan for Tuesday.

Let's show everyone what Dover stands for when #DoverVotes.
