Kicking Off the New Year

With 2018 well underway, I am enjoying digging right in on City Council issues.  I will be sharing periodic updates to help keep everyone updated on City Council happenings and seek feedback to inform my questions and votes on the Council.  This first update includes information on the Dover Inauguration, our first workshop on all things water, and our upcoming meetings and public hearings.  See below for updates!

General Updates
The new Council and School Board were sworn in on January 2 (you can read the write up in Fosters or view the video online).  The same evening the new Council selected our Deputy Mayor, electing At-large member Bob Carrier to again serve in that role. Mayor Karen Weston gave her third inaugural address and encouraged us all to work hard and asked residents of Dover to engage with us all as well.  The next night (January 3), the Council had our first workshop and the topic was “All Things Water” in Dover.  We received a very informative update from City staff on drinking water, stormwater and wastewater.  The slides from the presentation are available online along with the meeting minutes and audio (click on the “Meeting Minutes” tab here) or you can watch the video here. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Upcoming Meetings
Our next meeting will be held this Wednesday January 10 at City Hall.  The meeting agenda and background materials are posted on the City website.  As part of the meeting, there will be a public hearing on the proposed update of the Dover school lighting to use LEDs (saving energy and costs).  As usual, there is also a Citizen’s forum where residents, business owners, and representatives of local organizations are welcome to speak briefly on any topic related to the City of Dover.  We will also have the first reading of two resolutions regarding funding for a new City water well at Shaw’s Lane Fields and a reprogramming of funds for Waste Water Treatment Plant upgrades.  Public hearings are planned for January 24th where citizens are welcome to speak to the council on these items.  We will also have the first reading of a change to parking ordinances (extending meter hours to 8pm and changing posting on a portion of Broadway).  The parking ordinance will also have a public hearing on January 24th to receive public input.  If you are interested but unable to attend, you can watch via Chanel 22 or online.  If you have questions or concerns about any of the items, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
